The Board of Directors has collective responsibility for the success of the British American Tobacco Malaysia Group.
The Executive Directors have direct responsibility for business operations and the Non-Executive Directors are responsible for bringing independent judgment and scrutiny to decisions taken by the Board, providing objective challenge to the management.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Aseh bin Haji Che Mat

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Aseh bin Haji Che Mat has been appointed as Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 January 2017. He is also the Chairman of the Nomination Committee of the Company.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Aseh graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from the University of Malaya and received his Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California in the United States of America, PhD (Honorary) in International Relations from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Cyberjaya, Malaysia and PhD (Honorary) in Management from the Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Aseh joined the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia in March 1974 and held various positions as Assistant Secretary, Secretary and Principal Assistant Secretary of the Education Services Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Sabah during his eight (8) years with the Commission. Since 1984, he served in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Malaysia in various positions including Principal Assistant Secretary of the Security and Police Affairs Division; Undersecretary of Security and Preventive Division, and Management Division; and Deputy Director General and Director General of the Department of Immigration, Malaysia. In February 2001, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Aseh was appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Malaysia, a post he held until his retirement on 22 October 2007. He was the President of Putrajaya Corporation from August 2012 to July 2015. In September 2015, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Aseh was appointed non-executive Chairman of Fujitsu (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Aseh is active in community service and is currently the Chairman of the University Council of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Cyberjaya, Trustee and Chairman of Football Association of Malaysia Vetting, Monitoring and Integrity Committee, Chairman of Yayasan Pesara Kerajaan and President of Tiara Golf & Country Club, Melaka. He was also active in the Administrative and Diplomatic Service (ADS) and was its longest serving President.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Aseh is also the Chairman of MWE Holdings Berhad and an Independent Non-Executive Director of Lion Diversified Holdings Berhad.
Hendrik Stoel (Erik)

Erik Stoel was officially appointed a Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad and as Managing Director of the Group on 1 June 2016.
Erik first joined the British American Tobacco Group in 1995 as Brand Manager in Ukraine. He has now more than twenty years of international experience in the BAT Group that spans across the London Head Office, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific markets. One of Erik’s assignments was to serve as Marketing Director of BAT Malaysia in 2010-2012 before moving to Korea as BAT Korea’s Marketing Director. Subsequently, he was promoted to his prior role of Area Director North Asia Area, responsible for Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.
Erik holds a degree in Marketing from Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Netherlands and Masters in Business Administration from University of Northumbria at Newcastle, England.
Datuk Oh Chong Peng
(Independent Non-Executive Director)
Datuk Oh Chong Peng was appointed a Non-Executive Director of the then Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad in January 1998, now British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad.
He undertook his accountancy training in London and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1969. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales (ICAEW) as well as a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).
Datuk Oh joined Coopers & Lybrand (now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers) in London in 1969 and in Malaysia in 1971. He was a partner of Coopers & Lybrand, Malaysia from 1974 and retired as a Senior Partner of Coopers & Lybrand in 1997.
Datuk Oh currently sits as the Chairman of Alliance Financial Group Berhad. He is also a Non-Executive Director of several public companies, such as Kumpulan Europlus Berhad, Malayan Flour Mills Berhad, Dialog Group Berhad and several other private companies.
Datuk Oh is a Government appointed member of the Labuan Financial Services Authority (since 1996). He is also a trustee of the UTAR Education Foundation (2002) and a council member of University Tunku Abdul Rahman.
His past appointments include being a Government appointed Committee Member of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (1990-1996), a Council member (1981-2002), a past President (1994-1996) of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and a board member of Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) (2003-2009). He was Chairman of Land & General Berhad (1999-2007) and Nanyang Press Holdings Berhad (2001-2005) and was a board member of Rashid Hussain Berhad Group of Companies (1998-2003) and Star Publications (M) Bhd (1987-2009).
Datuk Oh Chong Peng is the Chairman of the Audit Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee and Nomination Committee of the Company.

Ricardo Guardo assumed the role of Finance Director, British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad and was officially appointed a Director of the Group on 1 September 2016.
Ricardo first joined British American Tobacco’s entity straight out of university as a Planning & Reporting Executive in Uruguay in 2002 and has held various Finance positions in Argentina since then which include exposure as Regional Process Auditor for the Americas Region and later business partnering in the Marketing space.
In 2011, Ricardo was appointed Head of Finance in Taiwan, where he was also the Chairperson on the Control and Fraud committee, Tax and Treasury committee and the Pre-sales Operation & Planning meeting on top of being a member of the prominent CFO Chamber in Taiwan. In late 2012, he was transferred to Hong Kong to assume the role of Regional Finance Manager for Asia Pacific where he actively validated financial statements for the region and provided guidance to the Regional Audit Committee on the control environment in the regional operations. Subsequently, Ricardo assumed the role of Head of Finance in Romania where BAT was the biggest FMCG in the country.
Ricardo holds a degree in Business Administration from Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Datuk Zainun Aishah binti Ahmad

Datuk Zainun Aishah was appointed a Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 March 2012.
Datuk Zainun graduated with a Bachelor of Economics degree from University of Malaya. She began her career with Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (“MIDA”), the Malaysian government’s principal agency for the promotion and coordination of industrial development in the country where she worked for 35 years. In her years of service, Datuk Zainun held various key positions in MIDA as well as in some of the country’s strategic councils, notably her pivotal role as the National Project Director in the formulation of the first Malaysian Industrial Master Plan. She was the Director-General of MIDA for 9 years and Deputy Director-General for 11 years.
She was previously a Director of Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Malayan Banking Berhad. Currently, she is a Director of Degem Berhad, Scomi Engineering Berhad, Shell Refinery Company (Federation of Malaya) Berhad and Berjaya Food Berhad. Datuk Zainun also sits as Chairman of Pernec Corporation Berhad, a public company.
Datuk Zainun is a member of the Audit Committee of the Company.
Dato’ Chan Choon Ngai

Dato’ Chan Choon Ngai was appointed Production Director of the then Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad, now British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad in October 1995. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He joined Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad in 1979, as Production Management Trainee and held various significant positions in the production division including Production Executive Make and Pack (1980- 1982), Personal Assistant to Rothmans International World Production Director, Rothmans International United Kingdom (1982-1984), Acting Factory Manager Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad (1984-1986), Factory Manager Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad (1986-1994) and Production Director (Designate) of Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad (1994- 1995). He was a director of Tien Wah Press Holdings Berhad from May 1997 to June 2003.
In July 2000, Dato’ Chan was appointed as the Operations Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad. Effective 15 November 2010, Dato’ Chan’s portfolio has been expanded to include the Business Development Services (“BDS”) function in addition to his current role as the Operations Director of the Company. Dato’ Chan retired on 31 December 2010 after attaining the age of 55. He was subsequently reappointed as the Operations Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad effective 1 February 2011, overseeing both Operations and BDS. He was re-designated as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 January 2013 following the expiry of his contract of service as Operations Director of the Company on 31 December 2012.
Datuk Christine Lee Oi Kuan

Datuk Christine Lee Oi Kuan was appointed a Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 March 2012.
She was appointed to the Top Team, now known as Leadership Team of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 January 2006 and assumed the role of Corporate and Legal Affairs Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 September 2006. She has been with British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad since 2001.
Datuk Christine Lee began her career in British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad as Head of Legal and Company Secretary. She was previously the Legal Manager and Company Secretary of two public listed companies, Hong Leong Industries Berhad and Malaysian Pacific Industries Berhad.
Holder of a degree in law from the University of Malaya, Datuk Christine Lee served at the Attorney General’s Chambers, Malaysia from 1983-1993 in the Prosecution and Advisory and International Law Divisions.
In her current role as the Corporate and Legal Affairs Director, Datuk Christine Lee is responsible for corporate and regulatory affairs and legal matters of the Group.
