Kuala Lumpur, 1 March 2021 – British American Tobacco Malaysia Berhad (BAT Malaysia) has been recognised as the Top Employer for 2021 for the third consecutive year.
The Top Employer award recognises an organisation's dedication to providing best-in-class employment practices. Practices that allow employees to develop themselves personally and professionally, while driving business results.
The award recognises BAT Malaysia's focus on creating a culture of passionate employees who build our purpose of a Better TomorrowTM. It also reaffirms BAT Malaysia as a company that fosters a culture of diversity and inclusivity. Employees who lead and inspire each other through living the company’s ethos of being bold, fast, empowered, responsible and diverse.
Jonathan Reed, Managing Director of BAT Malaysia:
“We are very proud to be certified as Top Employer for the third consecutive year. It is a testament to our best-in-class people practices. These include our organisational rewards, our talent architecture and creation of a safe and engaging environment for our employees during these challenging times. All are critical as we move the organisation towards A Better Tomorrow. This win validates our efforts to create a stronger, simpler and faster business that reflects our ethos.”
Developed with significant input from our employees, our ethos is the thread that runs through everything we do and how we do it. We believe it empowers our people, fosters a vibrant and rewarding work place and promotes sustainable long-term value.
Jonathan added:
"This recognition is particularly important during these unprecedented times. Talent is our most important asset. As such, we have to be creative and adaptable in our ways of keeping our teams, connected and engaged despite a global pandemic".
With work from home in effect for a large part of the year, BAT Malaysia had to pivot and adapt to the new norm by leveraging digital and virtual tools to keep the entire workforce connected, engaged and motivated.
As part of a response to the Covid-19 pandemic and recognising that mental wellness was as important as health, BAT Malaysia also introduced a new wellness programme called We Care to provide employees access to a wide range of health-related services, including psychologists, dieticians, and fitness coaches.
BAT Malaysia remains committed to accelerating the development of its employees. As part of its ongoing emphasis, BAT Malaysia will continue to champion development programmes such as the Growth Academy programme (a 12-month intensive training programme for field service personnel), the Global Graduate Academy (a 12-month training programme for fresh graduates), and implement a new talent architecture to drive leadership behaviours across the organisation.
The Top Employer award adds to our other awards such as the Life At Work 2019 Awards for Best International Organisation and Outstanding Practice – Initiative for Women in the Workforce.
